Grey Gardens: Storyville
Storyville celebrates the work of Albert and David Maysles, two pioneers of documentary filmmaking, with a short season of their films.
Big Edie and Little Edie, mother and daughter, lived with a menagerie of cats and racoons in their derelict mansion in the posh Long Island seaside resort of East Hampton. Their genteel squalor became a cause célèbre when Jackie Onassis, Big Eadie's niece and Little Eadie's first cousin, tried to help them clean up the house.
But despite their illustrious connections, the pair continued to live apart from society, talking to each other in a private language and keeping well away from the rest of the world. Albert and David Maysles became part of that world for a short while - and captured their extraordinary lives in this remarkable film.
